The subject matter of this painting is quintessentially Canadian because in the summer months somewhere in Canada, not just Ontario you just know that there are groups of people, friends, children hand clasped to a parent, lovers and the odd single person not that single people are odd, lol. You will find them either standing at the shores of one of our great lakes, toes buried in the sand or feet planted firmly on a flat tableau of sun warmed granite that edges the myriad lakes sprinkled throughout our boreal forests. Standing or sitting, perhaps even as an audience in folding lawn chairs, peering out through wind shaped pines or across a vast expanse of water at a sunset like this one. There is that short cusp of time when the sun dips below the horizon and before dusk that we are treated to one of nature’s truly marvelous day ending celebrations. If you are on “summer holidays” either camping or somewhere in a northern wooden cottage vault you might actually take the time to take in this brilliant play where the cast is clouds lit up with a dappling of day ending colour like this one.
For those of you that are Killbear camping veterans that I camped with for all those summers this painting will have special meaning because it is where all of you have stood innumerable evenings and afternoons too many summers to count, Harold Point.
Available as digital reproductions in three different sizes, framed and unframed.
