Cinnamon Persuasion, 40 x 60 inches, oil on canvas. Progression 22 of this unfinished painting, a work in progress.

One of the first artists whose art works I studied in books was the American artist, Winslow Homer. I loved his Caribbean subject matter and later in my artistic career I was influenced by Canadian artist #KenDanby. His Caribbean and south Pacific island paintings were a visual treat. One painting in particular by Danby with a woman riding bareback on an Appaloosa horse in the surf has always stuck with me. I have always wanted to paint a turquoise water giving way to a crystal clear wave washing languidly across a fine almost white sand beach. It has taken forty nine years to realize that desire as I've finally spent time with an old friend who resides there and runs an Airbnb and my partner on Saint John Island of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Wonderful trip and the water is indeed a marvelous colour of turquoise. "Cinnamon Persuasion" is of the shoreline ringing Cinnamon Bay. At the point where I stood the water lapped the shore from two different directions creating wonderful concentric circles of waves across the beautifully rounded sculpted sand beach. The pattern of footprints from those that walked it's shores distinct only momentarily as each wave continuously erased their path.
