When I was on the west coast visiting my brother Brian we did a day trip along the coastal highway. We had stopped at a small restaurant perched high on a ridge along the Juan De Fuca Straits. I remember walking out onto the deck at the back of the restaurant and as I walked through the doors to the outside the breath catching in my throat, so taken aback was I by this exquisite scene of beauty. The sea air, the warmth of the sun, just a perceptible breeze bringing the scent of the rain forest, mmmmmmm, it was a sublime moment of awe. This table as if someone knew an artist was to be the next one through the door was between the scene that I just described and I. I knelt with my camera almost as if giving supplication and thanks for being presented with what i knew at that moment was an excellent composition for a painting. It wasn't until later when I looked at my photo studies that I noticed the lipstick smudge on the one wine glass and that gave the image just a hint of bliss. I've tried to convey that that moment in this painting.
Available as digital reproductions in three different sizes, framed and unframed.
