Convergence, oil on canvas, 60 x 42 inches, private collection
This is one of my favourite places of contemplation and quite close to my home. I can't count the number of times I've been here, letting the dog run freely or kayaking from this point further down the river, but I do remember that the first time I stood here, this is the way I saw painting it. I would listen to the weather reports and when there was going to be mist in low lying areas, I knew conditions would be right to see what it was that I wanted to paint. I would get up early, before sunrise, while the rest of the household slept. I'd make myself a thermos of coffee, grab a book to read and take a lawn chair and my camera. I would walk the short distance from the road to this grassy point where two parts of the river converged and wait, watch, observe and take photos and write notes. From the myriad of photos I took and the notes and sketches drawn, I decided upon this moment. My only companions that morning were the sounds of songbirds, the running river and the thick fragrant perfume of the wildflowers in bloom. It was a moment Goldilocks would have described as being "just right." It is oil on canvas, 60 by 40 inches.
Available as digital reproductions in three different sizes, framed and unframed.
