This is the watercolour study for the oil painting, "Charmaine."

For a number of years I frequented a fine dining establishment called Charbrises in uptown Waterloo. It's owner, Charmaine and I were friends. Directly across the road from the restaurant was Eldon Gallery which carried my art work. It was interesting to get a window table in the restaurant when Brent Hodgson the proprietor of Eldon Gallery would have a large painting of mine on display in the window. Sitting in the restaurant watching people stop to look at what I had painted was fascinating for me. Loved the reactions of the younger viewers.

I am also an avid gardener and watching for these beauties, the bright red tulips to emerge from their earthen gloves in the spring is always a treat. Charmaine who owned the aforementioned restaurant wore the most wonderful shade of red lipstick and it is for that fond memory the painting is titled "Charmaine."
