I was commissioned to do this oil for a woman whose partner had passed away shortly before the birth of their first grandchild. She and her husband had always enjoyed evening walks along the shores of Lake Huron at Sauble. She had simply asked for a painting of he and his grandson together. It was a matter of just a few days later that I was exiting the house and my then neighbour and his grandson were standing in the yard watching a sunset, holding hands. It is that way in life sometimes that life gives you insights into what you ask of it. That image of my neighbour and his grandson became the genesis for this piece titled "Driftwood." I chose the title as we are much like driftwood in our lives, coming from places unknown, staying breifly in places and then moving on.
